What Carbonyz is

A cited reference on carbon technologies, plus a discussion community around it. Carbonyz is an independent research project: not a company, not a journal, not peer reviewed, and not an official source of anything. What it offers instead is a standard you can hold it to — every reference resolves to a real record, every correction is reviewed against the literature, and every moderation decision is logged.

Accounts

• Reading is open to everyone. Posting requires an account with a confirmed email address.
• You may post publicly under your profile or display a post as Anonymous. Anonymous display does not hide the account from moderation, export, deletion or abuse review.
• Give accurate information about yourself. In particular, do not claim an affiliation or an ORCID iD that is not yours: on a site about traceable claims, a false credential is a serious thing.
• You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.
• An account can be suspended for breaking these terms. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time.

What you may post

Post work you have the right to post. Do not post:

• Text, figures or data copied from a paper or a website you do not hold the rights to. Quote briefly and cite it instead.
• Personal attacks, harassment, or content targeting a person.
• Claims presented as established that you know to be unsupported, and fabricated or misrepresented data. This is the one that matters most here.
• Advertising, and anything unlawful under Austrian or EU law.

What happens to what you contribute

You keep the copyright in everything you write. By posting it you give Carbonyz a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it as part of the site, for as long as the site runs.

Suggested corrections are different in one respect. If a correction you send is accepted, its wording may be incorporated into the page itself, edited, and published as part of the knowledge base. Sending a correction is agreement to that. Submitted DOIs are facts about published literature and carry no licence question. Submitted claim checks may become public after review, with a status and explanatory note.

Nothing you submit is published automatically. Corrections, paper submissions and claim checks go to a review queue and a person reads them against the sources first.

Moderation

Posts and comments can be removed and threads can be locked. Removals keep the row and are written to an audit log, so a decision can be reversed and can be shown to have been made. Deleting your own post replaces its text but leaves the thread structure standing, because removing it outright would delete the replies other people wrote under it.

Moderation is done by hand and will be inconsistent at the edges. If you think a decision was wrong, say so — the audit log exists so that decisions can be revisited rather than defended.

The knowledge base is careful, not authoritative

Every reference on the site is checked against Crossref before it is used, and claims are written to be traceable to primary literature. That is a standard of care, not a guarantee of correctness. The pages are not peer reviewed.

If you are going to act on something here — design an experiment, size a plant, write a policy brief — read the cited source yourself. Nothing on Carbonyz is engineering, safety, financial or legal advice.

The assistant

The “Ask about this page” assistant answers from one page’s text and reference list, and is built to say that a page does not cover something rather than to fill the gap. It is still a language model and it can still be wrong.

Treat its answers as a reading aid, never as a citation. Cite the paper, not the assistant. See the privacy policy for where your question is sent.

Availability and liability

The site is provided as it is, with no warranty that it will be available, complete or correct. It may change or stop without notice.

To the fullest extent Austrian law permits, Carbonyz is not liable for loss arising from use of the site or reliance on its content. Nothing here limits liability for intent, gross negligence, or injury to life, body or health, which cannot be excluded by law.

Law and changes

Austrian law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. These terms will change as the site grows; the date at the foot of the page is the version marker.
